I've been playing with the above again and learning even more about Web 2.0 technology, which I do hope helps me to become a 'natural' Information Management person soonish.
I've subscribed to further RSS feeds, including ALIA's and PROV's and also gone into my Feedly account and made sure that my blog is connected to lots of other library resources which I've put together over a period of time. As it was, I wasn't receiving the feeds, so I hope that this works now. I was also able to include Kate in my library feed list, so let's see what happens now. I have two other lists, which are animal welfare and healthy vegetarian and vegan food. I use Twitter a fair bit to keep up to date, but it's good to have Feedly as backup.
I had an amazing experience with an RSS Feed that I subscribed to last year. I was in TROVE researching my paternal ancestry when I found a small bit of information about my Irish great great grandmother. I learned how to make a list which included her and set up the feed on TROVE with my email address. After about two weeks I received an email from a lady in Tasmania, wanting to get in touch with me, which I did. Her name was Dianne Snowdon and she had done a thesis on Irish female arsonists. The arsonists had lived right in the middle of the terrible potato famine and they were desperate to survive, so they set fire to buildings so that they could be transported to Van Dieman's Land. My great great grandmother was so interesting that Dianne had researched her and written her biography, incredible! I found out so much, just because of the List that I made and that good old RSS Feed. So, I suppose this is proof of how valuable such technology is.
Here is a great link to the Feedly tutorial, I thought that it might be a YouTube clip, but no, bit boring, but helpful too, <http://blog.feedly.com/feedly-tutorial/>
So, microblogging on sites such as Twitter and Yammer seems to be starting to feel as though it's a part of my way of life now and I'd even say that perhaps this kind of blogging isn't really 'micro' for me anymore. Twitter connects me with different libraries around the world and that's pretty 'big' - well I think so anyway. I've also received a tweet from minibieb on Pinterest (another social media site where I'm learning lots of new technological skills) it is beautiful, with photos of lots of little libraries, at <www.pinterest.com/koffiemetkoek/mini-bieb> check it out :)
The last 'micro'blogging treat which I would like to share comes from Twitter, the URL is shown. I do enjoy NPD Ireland's tweets often.
So today, on FF, I MT'd, and AFAIK, this is a CC of Twitter Lingo. This is a RLRT and I'm @ and # ISYS1166 Anonymous Bloggers with this DM, with a HT and lots of SMH and hoping that you enjoy this because TIL that technology can be fun!! Please TMB and ICYMI I'm at mydogseat....., so send a RT to each other and let's see if it's OH by others W/ the same interests as us. Also, while I get the chance, I do apologise for the fact that my blog posts are TL;DR and annoying.
Cheers,
Susanne, p.s. I'm sure that if there's a CX to be made that you will get to fix it by MM and TFTF :)
Hi Susanne!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog- it looks great! :)
I have found Feedly to be a brilliant online tool to use in order to keep up-to-date with my favourite blog posts, webpages and magazines. Microblogging, however is something that I am still getting used to. It has been fun exploring Twitter but it still remains a bit of a mystery to me in some aspects! Especially 'Twitter Lingo!' Forgive me for my ignorance but I have no idea what you were saying in your final paragraph!! Haha! It's like learning a new language! :)
Keep up the great work Susanne!
Hey Christine, It is a completely different language!! I'm not going to translate for you because that's half the fun - for you :) I agree with you though, it does take a fair while to feel okay with what's happening, it's taken me at least six months to start to feel okay about using and enjoying Twitter. I think what's helped though is that some of my friends are really using it often, so they include me and then I learn. Also, it gives me a powerful voice. I try really hard to watch Q and A and tweet while the show's actually happening, this is great because I can express my opinion, whether the show uses my tweets or not. See you soon. Now I hope that I can get onto your Blog and post kk. Cheers, Susanne
ReplyDeleteHi Susanne, loved your Twitter lingo paragraph there! Thanks for sharing the Pinterest link - little libraries are something I investigated last year. It's so great to see people's creativity and desire to share books in the most imaginative places.
