Popular Blogs - Some I use each day

Hi Group!!

I Hope that you're all well and busy reading, blogging and having fun while you're at it.  I've had a read of Lisette and Nouf's blogs, but haven't been able to get into Kate or Luisa's blogs as yet.  I also found that my reply posts to both Lisette and Nouf's posts wouldn't 'accept' me, so I've copied and pasted them into a word doc and I'll try to work out what I've done wrong then post them.  I'm pretty sure that the problem involves gmail and R.M.I.T., or perhaps I haven't invited you in or vice versa or something, but I'll see.

Today's post is about my most popular blogs.  The most common way that I access the blogs that I follow is through Twitter, then facebook and then email.  Our Yammer Blog is connected to our student email account, so, as you know, we receive updates about Yammer activity so that we can check the blog.  I've found that these updates only just touch the surface and that I need to go in each day, when uni is happening especially, to check out just what's happening.  I've posted and shared on Yammer a few times but I mostly use it to keep up to date with our MIM Community, check out industry info and see what's being shared that can support my learning.

I've used my Twitter account  to follow as many libraries and associated organisations as I can.  This has proven to be very exciting at times because of some of the activities and blogs which happen.  Last year I was involved in the ANZ23LibraryThings which had an amazing blog, full of activities, information and also skype sessions which all helped me to study. This lasted from March to November and was run by both Australian and New Zealand Librarians.  Other blogs which I follow on my Twitter account and which are @ and # before them are The British Library, ALIA Info Online, The Wheeler Centre, Aust Lib & Info Assn, RMIT Uni Library, ACMI, London Review (LRB), VALA, RMIT University, Melbourne Library, Library Journal, Library of Congress, New Professionals, OCLC, Museum Victoria, Women of Letters, State Library of Vic,ALIA NGAC, NY Public Library, Age Arts, NYer Page-Turner, NY Review of Books, National Library Aus, Macquarie Dictionary, NPD Ireland, ManchesterNLPN, UCD Digital Library, uklibchat, NewAmsterdamLibrary, IanPotterFoundation, LibraryThing.com, Cockburn Library, InfoMngmt Librarian, NGV, goodreads, Book Riot, Bookish, atyourlibrary.org, NPR Books, HuffPost Books, New York Times Books, mini-bieb, Book Thing, Bloomsbury USA, LT for Libraries, The People's Library and quite a few more.  I'm going to create a separate list of these contacts, most of which have informative blogs, or at least a place where you can ask questions, share or just read what's happening in the global library world.  I'm going to put the proper link addresses into the list in the next day or two.  Please share if you have others too, then perhaps our group can grow this resource list.

My other favourite or most popular blogs are those which belong to Edgar's Mission, Vege Head and Sea Shepherd.

I hope that you enjoy this post and that you can use some of the above resources to help with ISYSS1166.

Happy Blogging,
Susanne

  1. Hi Susanne!

I will check and see if there is a problem on my side concerning invites. Maybe that is the problem with commenting on my blog, I will fix it up now if this is the case. I look forward to reading your comments.

I enjoyed reading your post! I am amazed by the number of libraries that you follow via your Twitter account. I think that is great that you are able to keep informed about what is happening in these libraries.

I will have to have a look at some of the library blogs myself.

    Thank you very much!

    Lisette

    1. Hi Lisette,
Thanks for your reply :) The 'busyness' of my Twitter account can sometimes be a little overwhelming, but I feel like I'm part of a global library community and it's really exciting. I've been following different issues too, like the impact of eBooks on libraries in different countries and how some of them have coped and unfortunately, some haven't - so these links are great for our studies.
      Cheers,
      See you tomorrow,
      Susanne

  2. Hi Susanne,

I've tried to edit my URL again on Blackboard so hopefully you can access my blog now. If not, I'll have to work on it in class tomorrow!

Your post has reminded me of all the amazing resources and blogs out there - I love your use of Twitter and am looking forward to creating my own Twitter account in the next few weeks. Then I can get in on some of the action!

I've just done some digging around using your resources and have just added three more library blogs to my bookmarks! Thanks again.

    1. Hi Kate, I'm going to have another go at all of our group's blogs in the morning, I'm sure it's fine and, even if not, it's only temporary and I'm sure that Huan can help us 'fix' it :) I'm glad that you enjoyed some of my library links and I'm thinking it's an okay idea to start up your Twitter account soonish :)
      Cheers,
      Susanne

  3. Hi Susan
I've faced this comment problem to solve this :
first solution is sign out from your gmail account which is used to create your blog.
second solution is going to comment as box and choose OpenID then past your URL blog.

Certainly follow you for all these blogs will open great prospects, including the door of science and knowledge and many wonderful opportunities.

    Keep going and good luck.
