Hi Everyone,
Well we did have some fun last week. Our group had already set up a Google Drive communication forum, for us all to support each other, ask questions and get ourselves organised. We had a great interactive session during our tutorial, exploring different social bookmarking tools and we were able to really have an adventure and concentrate on this because we didn't have to waste time setting up our Google Drive. We also noted that this interaction could be shared on gmail, facebook and google plus, and we invited Huan into our discussion as well.
Also, while talking about controlling different sharing possibilities and tools I need to share what I've worked out about the messy R.M.I.T gmail problem. I've downloaded Firefox onto my Mac. I was told to anyway for my EndNote session tomorrow. Now I keep both my Google Chrome and my Firefox open. This means that I'm able to have two gmail accounts opened at the same time, with having to close one to get to the other. I've kept the icons next to each other at the bottom of my screen and just click on Google Chrome to access my R.M.I.T. 'stuff' and then click on Firefox to access my blog, easy peasy :)
So, back to our session last week, we explored Diigo at http://www.diigo.com first with Nouf and Lisette working closely together to get Nouf joined up, then with us all helping out when she created a list and bookmarked her special items. I joined Diigo last year and used it a few times, but found that it really wasn't very 'instant' so I haven't really used it next.
Along the same theme, Kate and I discussed the speed at which hash tagging on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and other Social Media happens and how the # actually invites others globally to discuss, share and also 'bookmark' the subject. We've decided that these mediums are truly a form of bookmarking.
Kate and I also still use the good old fashioned physical bookmark feature to create easy links to important resources, which is quite okay I do believe :) Kate's useful YouTube video shows us how to import our Google Bookmarks into Diigo, so I might have a go at that later, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w 5g0Spyjo0. The more that I learn the better at this point.
Lisette has done some extra research into Diigo and found other special features so I will give it another try just to see how they go. Lisette has also put up the list of other Bookmarking tools on the ISYS1166 Blackboard, including Delicious, Citeulike, Mendeley, Zotero and Faviki and asked our group on Google Drive which other one we should explore. I've had some fun with Delicious before and would like to look into it a bit further, so that would be my choice, but I'll go with what everyone else wants to look at.
Looking forward to another busy tutorial today.
Cheers,
Susanne
Hi Susanne! I enjoyed the session that we had on Google Docs as well it was great to be able to communicate with each other on the same document and it provides a good place for our group to ask questions as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisette, I agree, our group is certainly going to be able to share and use the info we put on our Google Doc. I think it's pretty supportive for each of us as well.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Susanne
Hi Susanne!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Google document is very important for us to share our ideas and help together.
Thanks for you because you establish this document from the first week we met .
Keep going
Hi Nouf, I just knew from two Group Tasks last year that Google Drive is an invaluable way of communicating online in an effective and efficient way, so I just thought that it would be the right thing to set one up for our group right at the start. We'll probably use it further into the semester too. Cheers, Susane
ReplyDeleteSusanne thank you for creating our group google document- showing some initiative!
ReplyDeleteI did not get time to do this bookmarking exercise as I do it the good old fashioned way on my computer also. Think I will use feedly.com also..
But I do still want to have a look at Mendeley and see if I feel more comfortable using that or Endote
Interesting concept bout the tagging # too.
